New Year, New Moth- 18-01

...................And to complete the set on page 64 of my ring-bound copy of the 'Concise Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland' by Townsend, Waring and Lewington. My garden finally turned up one of these. This was the only moth I found this morning, after a cold forgettable week of no trapping.

Spring Usher
This is a not a wholly unexpected find. But it's another gap filled and another step closer to 300 garden macros. I hope to achieve this target during this year........

  1. We haven't started trapping here yet this year, well done on filling one of those gaps :-)

  3. I reckon this is one of only two pages of the book that can be completed in a Bedfordshire garden, the other being the page (78 in my edition) that includes three Hawkmoths, Lime, Eyed, Poplar. Well done !
I have failed to catch a single moth in the four trapping nights that I have had and I fancy getting this one. (My first in 2011 was Early Moth on 19th January.)

  4. I think you're right Andy- though Bedfordshire, mainly because of it's size isn't exactly a hotbed of activity for Moths. Or for that matter, birds or any other nature!
If its excitement we're after, we need to move to the coast!
