Monster!, Monster!

The 13th June was a special night with 27 species new for year. A list of 100 species is a very good total by any stretch of the imagination. But this is the first time I've done it with just one trap. Also included was Bucculatrix cristatella (no 101) which was found during the day as a mine on Yarrow. To cap it off, I even recorded a new moth for the garden in the shape of this, otherwise known as a Yarrow Plume.

  1. Hi Matt, I only have one trap. Last year I took 800 odd individuals of 117 sp in it, my best ever. Thats fully the trap, no garden ticks or mines later...I wonder what the best is?

  2. That's pretty special!- I never get the numbers of individuals you do. If I wasn't overlooked and used a Robinson with MV, I could probably get more. Skinner's don't retain as much, so you have to patrol during the night and collect any notables. I'm sure given the right night/location/trap, you could quite easily get a lot more. 117 species in your neck of the woods is going some though..........
