Still Stalling......06-06

...............and not looking like getting going in the next few days at least. Last year's records tell me just how bad it is this year.

Last year on this day- 215 species, 132 Macro and 83 Micro

This year (06-06-12)- 131 species, 89 Macro and 42 Micro

So I've tried to include a few highlights, although the Brown Rustic was battered and the Sallow Kitten had been eaten by a Spider- not very photogenic!

More Recent Highlights........

As Summer starts to wind down the catch is becoming far more predictable with large numbers of grass moth species, Flounced Rustics and Underwings. There has been a few highlights, though I missed a couple of moth emptying sessions as I was helping the Heligoland Heroes in Buckton on Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire. See some of the progress on Mark Thomas' Blog. While I was away the Kids did the recording and as usual kept any 'specials' for me in the fridge. They did save a Six-striped Rustic,(19th August) but the photos didn't make the cut- click HERE for last year's effort.

Square-spot Rustic
NFY, 17th August with many more since.

461 Ypsolopha ustella
This is a difficult one as it has hardly any noticeable field marks. However a small white tuft of scales on top of the thorax and a general long winged appearance seems to lean towards this species. If confirmed it will be a Garden 1st, 18th August. Confirmed..........D. Manning

 Purple Bar
A real stunner and only my 2nd record. NFY 21st August.

 Rosy Rustic
I don't get many of these, so nice to record it early. Last year my 1st and last one was 31st October!

 Treble-bar
Only my 2nd Record, 23rd August.

 Old Lady
1st record since 2009- NFY 23rd August.

Another 5 for the year........01/09

After a recent drought, a repositioning of the trap paid instant dividends with 3 new Macros and 2 Micros. The Micros will appear shortly after analysis from David Manning.......

Red Underwing
After just one really tatty example turned up last year, it was nice to get a mint one. Shame it was off before a showy hind wing shot.

Snout
After getting one at Broom, it was good to get a garden one just hours later.

Purple Bar
Another great garden tick.
